Today, as I do most days, I headed into the minefield of useless useful information that is Goggledom. Surfing on the crest of a www I came across Paint My Album. The concept involves some chaps called Diarmuid and Anthony from Manchester have started a internet craze for rehashing classic album covers using Microsoft Paint. With contributions from across the interweb the lads have recently hit a total of 1,101 covers reproduced with a goal of reaching the 2,000 mark by 23rd of December 2009.
To get involved join ‘Let’s Redo Classic Album Covers Using Microsoft Paint’ on Facebook or submit your MS Paint covers to paintmyalbum@gmail.com.
Anyhow the boys exploits have inspired me to dig into my back catalogue and serve up my top ten iconic Manchester album cover designs, here we go pop-pickers:
10 ) X Marks Destination – The Whip
9 ) Revenge of the Goldfish – Inspiral Carpets
8 ) Power, Corruption and Lies – New Order
7 ) Pills ‘N’ Thrills and Bellyaches – Happy Mondays
6 ) The Seldom Seen Kid – Elbow
5 ) The Hour of Bewilderbeast – Badly Drawn Boy
4 ) The Queen is Dead – The Smiths
3 ) The Stone Roses – The Stone Roses
2 ) (What’s The Story) Morning Glory – Oasis
1 ) Unknown Pleasures – Joy Division
That’s my thoughts on the matter… what about yours?
